The Public Relations Association of Sri Lanka (PRASL), in partnership with the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI), has launched a new Certificate Course in Public Relations and Corporate Communications to support the development of future communications professionals in Sri Lanka. The initiative comes at a time when the demand for skilled practitioners in public relations, corporate communications and digital engagement continues to grow rapidly across industries.

The programme has been designed primarily for school leavers, young professionals, career explorers and aspiring communicators seeking to enter the field of communications. It offers participants a strong foundation in the principles and practices of modern public relations and corporate communications while also introducing them to the evolving dynamics of digital media, stakeholder engagement, reputation management and crisis communications.

Unlike conventional academic programmes that focus heavily on theory, this course has been structured with a strong emphasis on practical learning and industry exposure. Participants will gain insights into real world communications challenges through case studies, interactive discussions and hands on learning experiences guided by experienced industry practitioners. The programme aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the professional communications environment by equipping students with practical skills relevant to the industry.

One of the key strengths of the course is its industry led faculty model. Sixteen professionals representing leading corporate organisations and communications agencies in Sri Lanka will conduct specialised sessions throughout the 12-week programme. Their expertise and direct industry experience are expected to provide participants with valuable exposure to current trends, best practices and professional expectations within the communications sector.

The course will be conducted in English, reflecting the language standards and communication requirements commonly expected within the industry. Sessions are scheduled to take place twice a week during the evenings, making the programme accessible for both students and working individuals interested in building a career in communications. The inaugural intake of the programme is set to commence on the 23rd of June 2026 at the Sri Lanka Press Institute premises in Colombo 05.

The launch of this programme reflects the shared commitment of PRASL and SLPI to strengthen Sri Lanka’s communications industry by investing in the next generation of talent. Both organisations recognise the growing importance of strategic communications in today’s corporate, media and public sectors and aim to create greater opportunities for aspiring professionals to enter the field with the right knowledge and skills.

Registrations for the inaugural intake are now open, with limited placements available. Those interested in enrolling or obtaining further information may visit the Public Relations Association of Sri Lanka Facebook page or the PRASL website at: https://prasl.lk  to access the registration Google Form. Inquiries may also be directed via email to prasl.education@gmail.com  or through WhatsApp on +94 77 935 6995.
