The date was especially meaningful: it marked ten years since the couple first met in Madrid, when Rodríguez was working at a Gucci store.

The wedding was eventually revealed to the public through a simple photograph of their wedding bands, accompanied by the initials “C” and “G”. The understated announcement was fitting for a ceremony that, despite involving two of the world's most recognizable public figures, was designed around something much more private: family.

A wedding in the heart of home

In an interview with Vogue, Rodríguez explained why the couple chose their living room rather than a grand venue. The decision was not about doing away with the glamour associated with their lives. Instead, it was about creating a memory that belonged first to them and their children.

Their living room, she explained, is where the family eats, spends time together and experiences the ordinary rhythms of life. By exchanging their vows there, the couple transformed an everyday family space into the setting for a memory they hope their children will carry with them.

Rodríguez said she wanted the children to be able to look back decades from now and remember that something important happened in the very place where their family life unfolded. That idea gives the wedding a significance beyond its unusual setting. For a family accustomed to luxury, travel and constant public attention, home represents something that money cannot necessarily manufacture: familiarity.

From the fairytale wedding she once imagined

The choice was particularly striking because Rodríguez once imagined something entirely different. As a child, she dreamed of the traditional fairytale wedding: a grand castle, a magnificent carriage, a long dress and a diamond-covered crown. Yet adulthood, family and nearly a decade of life with Ronaldo appear to have changed her understanding of what makes a wedding meaningful.

The castles, cars and private islands that might once have represented extravagance are accessible to the couple in everyday life. What is considerably harder to find, Rodríguez suggested, is genuine intimacy. That distinction appears to have shaped the ceremony. Their five children were at the center of the occasion, making the wedding less about the performance of celebrity and more about recognizing the family they had built together. It is a surprisingly grounded choice for a couple whose relationship has been followed by millions.

Ten years from a Gucci store to a wedding at home

Ronaldo and Rodríguez met in 2016 at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodríguez was working at the time. Their relationship developed from that encounter into one of the world's most closely watched celebrity partnerships.

A decade later, Gucci once again appeared in the story, this time in a very different context. Rodríguez wore Gucci for the intimate ceremony, bringing an unexpected sense of continuity to a relationship that began in a luxury fashion store and eventually grew into a family life shared across countries and continents.

The couple announced their engagement in August 2025, when Rodríguez shared a photograph of her engagement ring and confirmed that she had said yes. By the time they finally married, however, the ceremony was deliberately stripped of the expectations that often surround a celebrity wedding. There was no need to turn their decade together into a public production.

The children came first

Perhaps the most defining element of the ceremony was the presence of their children. Ronaldo and Rodríguez are parents to Alana, 8, and Bella, 4, while Ronaldo's family also includes Cristiano Jr., 16, and twins Eva and Mateo, 9. The five children were the only family members present at the civil ceremony, according to reports on the couple's Vogue interview.

That decision reflects a theme Rodríguez has spoken about repeatedly: family comes before everything else. In a previous interview with Vogue Arabia, she described the family as the centre around which her professional life is organised, explaining that her work commitments are arranged around the children's schedules and the family's needs.

The wedding therefore seems less like a sudden departure from their public lives than a continuation of the values Rodríguez has previously described. For all the fame surrounding them, their private life has remained anchored in a familiar routine: school, family time, travel, work and home. The living room simply became the place where that private life and their public commitment finally met.

A quiet ceremony, with no shortage of luxury

Of course, intimacy did not mean the complete absence of extravagance. Rodríguez's wedding look included Gucci, while her jewelry attracted considerable attention. Reports have estimated that the Chopard diamonds she wore were worth tens of millions of dollars, including a spectacular 50-carat diamond necklace.
