  • Lahiru Madhushan represents a generation of young professionals seeking meaningful connections between traditional knowledge and contemporary innovation. His journey spans Ayurvedic medicine, cosmetic consultation, wellness, beauty, research and entrepreneurship, reflecting a belief that professional growth comes from curiosity, responsibility and continuous learning. As an Ayurvedic Medical Officer, cosmetic consultant and entrepreneur, he has developed an approach that respects established principles while recognising the importance of evidence, quality and changing consumer needs. Through Ayucare Natural Beauty Products, he has transformed professional knowledge into practical ideas for everyday wellbeing. His participation in youth development platforms has further strengthened his leadership, communication and collaborative skills. From being part of the Best Team at Winspiration 3.0 to receiving the Young Wellness and Beauty Innovation Leader Award at the 7th New Generation Youth Top40 Awards 2026, Lahiru views each achievement not simply as recognition, but as encouragement to continue learning, contributing and creating opportunities for others.

    1. You have built a career combining Ayurvedic medicine, cosmetic consultation, research, entrepreneurship and wellness innovation. What inspired you to explore these areas, and how have they shaped your professional journey?

My journey began with a strong interest in understanding health and beauty from a holistic perspective. Studying Ayurvedic medicine provided me with a foundation in traditional knowledge and patient centred care. At the same time, my growing interest in cosmetics, wellness, research and innovation encouraged me to explore possibilities beyond conventional professional boundaries. Over time, I realised that these fields are closely connected. Ayurveda offers valuable principles for understanding health, lifestyle, skin and general wellbeing, while research and innovation provide ways to examine, develop and communicate those principles for contemporary society. Exploring different areas has therefore taught me to remain curious, adaptable and willing to learn. Each experience has added a different perspective to my professional development and strengthened my interest in discovering how traditional knowledge can contribute responsibly and meaningfully to modern wellness.

    1. As an Ayurvedic Medical Officer and cosmetic consultant, how do you balance traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with modern approaches to beauty, wellness and product development?

I do not see tradition and modernity as competing choices. For me, the important question is how we understand the value of each and allow them to complement one another responsibly. Ayurveda provides a traditional framework for understanding health, lifestyle, individual needs and natural approaches to wellbeing. Modern science, research, technology, consumer expectations and quality standards are equally important when creating wellness and beauty solutions for people today. The key is responsible integration. Traditional concepts should be respected within their proper context, while modern approaches can help investigate, develop and communicate products and services appropriately. This balance is particularly important in beauty and wellness because the industry needs solutions that are culturally meaningful while also being developed with responsibility, quality and professional standards in mind.

    1. As Co-Founder and Managing Director of Ayucare Natural Beauty Products, what inspired you to enter the wellness and beauty industry, and what have you learned as a young entrepreneur?

My interest in wellness and beauty came from wanting to connect professional knowledge with practical solutions that people could incorporate into their everyday lives. Entrepreneurship gave me the opportunity to explore this idea outside a purely academic or clinical environment. One of the most important lessons I have learned is that entrepreneurship requires much more than a good idea. It demands consistency, responsibility, effective communication, teamwork, patience and a willingness to learn from mistakes. I have also learned that progress rarely happens at a constant pace. Sometimes development happens quickly, while at other times you have to continue working quietly without seeing immediate results. Those periods have helped me become more disciplined and have taught me to appreciate the process of building something, rather than focusing only on the final outcome.

    1. Research and innovation are important parts of your work. How have your experiences in these areas influenced the way you approach healthcare and beauty?

Research has taught me to question assumptions and search for evidence instead of accepting an idea simply because it sounds attractive. This is particularly important in healthcare and beauty, where consumers regularly encounter powerful claims and rapidly changing trends. My experience has encouraged me to evaluate products and concepts from several perspectives, including their purpose, safety, quality, practicality, user expectations and supporting evidence. One of the greatest challenges in innovation is turning an idea into something that is both practical and responsible. This has changed my understanding of innovation itself. I no longer see innovation simply as creating something new. I see it as identifying a meaningful problem and developing an appropriate solution while maintaining professional, ethical and quality standards throughout the process.

    1. You have experience in community medical services, professional presentations and industry engagement. How important are communication and public engagement in healthcare and wellness?

Communication is essential because knowledge has limited value when people cannot understand it or apply it meaningfully. Healthcare professionals communicate with patients, colleagues, students, businesses, researchers and members of the wider public. Each audience has different needs, which means the same concept may need to be explained in several different ways. Community engagement has also shown me that healthcare extends beyond treatment. Education, prevention, awareness and trust are equally important, as is understanding the circumstances people experience in their daily lives. Responsible communication becomes especially significant in wellness and beauty because trends and claims can spread extremely quickly. Professionals therefore have a responsibility to communicate clearly, provide appropriate information and avoid creating unrealistic expectations about products, treatments or outcomes.

    1. You participated in the Winspiration programme three times from 2024 to 2026 and were part of the Best Team at Winspiration 3.0. How has the programme and mentorship influenced your development?

Winspiration gave me an opportunity to see personal development as a continuous process rather than a single experience. Working with people from different backgrounds helped me better understand teamwork, communication, leadership and adaptability. Being part of the Best Team at Winspiration 3.0 was particularly meaningful because it demonstrated that important achievements often come from collective effort rather than individual ability. Mentorship has also played a significant role in my development. I have learned that a mentor is not simply someone who provides advice or gives you the correct answers. Good mentors encourage you to think differently, recognise your strengths, identify areas where you can improve and support you in making better decisions. Their guidance has made me more conscious of how I approach challenges, opportunities and professional relationships. Mentorship has also taught me to listen carefully, accept constructive feedback and take responsibility for applying what I learn. These experiences continue to influence how I communicate, collaborate and approach leadership.

    1. You have participated in the Asian Youth Conference, Coffee Break events and other youth initiatives. How have these experiences influenced your network, leadership skills and perspectives?

Youth platforms have offered something that formal education cannot always provide. They have exposed me to people with very different backgrounds, experiences, professions and ways of thinking. Through these programmes, I have met young people from different fields and learned how they approach leadership, entrepreneurship, social responsibility and personal development. These connections have expanded my professional network, but their greatest value has been the way they have broadened my perspective. They have also increased my confidence in communicating ideas and contributing to discussions. I have come to understand that leadership is not simply about directing other people. It requires listening, learning, accepting responsibility and being willing to reconsider your own position when you encounter stronger ideas or different perspectives.

    1. You received the Young Wellness and Beauty Innovation Leader Award at the 7th New Generation Youth Top40 Awards 2026. What did this recognition mean to you?

Receiving the award was meaningful because it recognised an area in which I have genuinely invested considerable time, energy and effort. However, I do not view an award as a destination. I see recognition as a responsibility. Awards can create opportunities and open new doors, but the greater challenge is continuing to produce valuable work after receiving recognition. For me, the award strengthens my motivation to continue learning, expanding my professional knowledge and exploring responsible innovation across Ayurvedic medicine, wellness and beauty. I also hope that the opportunities created through recognition will allow me to support other young people who are working to develop careers around their own interests, knowledge and ideas.

    1. You have supported youth and community initiatives, including the Corporate Olympiad 2025 through Ayucare. What role can young professionals and businesses play in creating community impact?

I believe businesses should remain connected to the communities around them. Young professionals and entrepreneurs possess knowledge, networks, creativity and resources that can contribute to positive social change. Community involvement does not always require a large financial contribution. Impact can come through sharing knowledge, creating opportunities, mentoring young people, supporting events, providing useful resources or using a professional platform to encourage constructive participation. Young entrepreneurs have an opportunity to build successful businesses while developing a genuine sense of social responsibility. To me, sustainable success should not be measured only by personal or commercial achievements. It should also consider the value we create for other people and the communities that support and surround us.

    1. Looking ahead, what do you hope to achieve, and what advice would you give young people who want to build careers around their passions?

I want to continue developing across Ayurvedic medicine, wellness, beauty innovation, research and entrepreneurship. My goal is to contribute to work that connects traditional knowledge with responsible innovation and creates practical value for people and their wellbeing. Continuous learning will remain an important part of that journey because healthcare and wellness are fields in which knowledge constantly develops. I believe professionals should remain open to learning throughout their careers. For young people, my advice is to take your passion seriously but understand that passion alone is not enough. You also need knowledge, discipline, patience and consistency to transform an interest into meaningful work. Do not be afraid to begin with something small. Learn from people who have more experience, accept constructive criticism, build genuine professional relationships and remain consistent when progress seems slow. Most importantly, do not judge your entire journey according to how quickly you achieve visible success. Give yourself time to develop your skills and understanding. Protect the values that guide your work, remain willing to improve and continue making steady progress. Meaningful careers are rarely built overnight. Opportunities often emerge because people continue learning, contributing and putting in the effort even when immediate results are not visible.
