Art With a Heart in Aid of the CFS Prithipura Home Celebrating 64 Years of Compassionate Care and Empowering Lives

Art and compassion will come together this November as the CFS Prithipura Home hosts “Art With a Heart,” a special charity art auction aimed at raising much-needed funds to support the care and well-being of its residents. Established in 1962, the CFS Prithipura Home celebrates 64 years of dedicated service to people with intellectual and physical disabilities. Today, it provides a loving, secure and nurturing environment for 60 residents, offering lifelong care from childhood through adulthood. As a registered and approved charity, the Home is committed to creating a supportive community where every resident is encouraged to develop their individual abilities, personality and potential. With the invaluable assistance of dedicated staff and volunteers, it strives to ensure that residents enjoy dignity, comfort, companionship and opportunities to live fulfilling lives.
However, sustaining this vital service presents considerable financial challenges. Although the Home receives limited government assistance, it depends heavily on donations from individuals, businesses and charitable foundations. Monthly operational expenses exceed Rs. 1.8 million, covering essential requirements such as meals, staff salaries, electricity, water and food supplies not met through donations. Additional funding is urgently needed for infrastructure maintenance and improvements to ensure residents continue to enjoy a safe and comfortable living environment. To address these needs, the Home has organised an exceptional art auction featuring works generously contributed by some of Sri Lanka's most respected artists.

The exhibition will be held at the Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation, 138, Galle Road, Colombo 3, from November 5 to 7, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the paintings and submit bids on the sheets provided. The event will culminate in a live auction at 4 p.m. on November 7, conducted by renowned auctioneers Schokman & Samerawickreme, who have generously volunteered their professional services free of charge.
Participating artists include Prageeth Manohansa, Chandraguptha Thenuwara, Anoma Wijewardene, Channa Ekanayake, Vajira Gunewardena, Kingsley Gunatilleke, Ismeth Raheem, Raja Segar, S.H. Sarath, Iromie Wijewardena, Michael Anthonisz, Wasantha Namaskara and Mayantha Perera. The organising committee extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Udayshanth and Angelika Fernando Foundation for providing its gallery space complimentary, with special gratitude to Shanth Fernando, whose guidance and generous support have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to fruition. The auction offers art enthusiasts and collectors a meaningful opportunity to acquire outstanding works while contributing directly to the welfare of people who depend on compassionate, lifelong care.
