Artist Shanthi Shanmuganathan will present her second solo exhibition of paintings titled Meandering Moods on the 10th and 11th of January 2026 at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery in Colombo. The exhibition will be open to the public on both days from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm and invites art enthusiasts, collectors, and the wider community to experience a body of work that is both visually engaging and deeply meaningful.
Meandering Moods brings together a diverse collection of paintings created using oil, acrylic, texture, and jute as primary mediums. The works explore a wide range of themes and stylistic expressions, reflecting the artist’s evolving creative journey over time. Each piece captures subtle emotional shifts and layered moods, allowing viewers to interpret the artworks through their own personal experiences and feelings. The exhibition title reflects this fluid movement of emotion and thought, where moods wander, overlap, and transform across canvas and texture.
Beyond its artistic value, Meandering Moods is rooted in a strong humanitarian purpose. In Sri Lanka, more than 3,000 children are born each year with congenital heart disease. However, only around 900 of these children are able to receive the lifesaving heart surgeries they urgently need. Many others face shortened lives due to the severe limitations within the healthcare system. These challenges include a shortage of specialist doctors, limited operation theatres, a lack of trained medical staff, and the high cost associated with complex paediatric heart surgeries.
Rotary clubs across Sri Lanka have been playing a vital role in addressing this critical national need. Through dedicated initiatives, Rotary has facilitated free heart surgeries for children at private hospitals within Sri Lanka. For particularly complex cases, children are sent to Amrita Hospital in Kochin, India, where advanced surgical care is available. In addition to supporting surgeries, Rotary clubs focus on long term capacity building. Every three years, thirty nurses and three perfusionists are sent to India for advanced training. This training enables them to work alongside Sri Lankan doctors and strengthens the country’s ability to perform paediatric heart surgeries locally.
Rotary is also actively involved in equipping the Paediatric Cardiology Unit in its new building with state-of-the-art medical equipment. This investment is aimed at increasing the number of surgeries that can be safely performed within Sri Lanka, ultimately saving more young lives and reducing the need for overseas treatment.
The proceeds from Meandering Moods will be donated to Rotary Colombo East in support of this lifesaving initiative undertaken by Rotary District 3220. By attending the exhibition or purchasing artwork, visitors will directly contribute to a cause that offers hope and a future to children born with heart disease.
Meandering Moods offers art lovers a unique opportunity to appreciate fine art while making a meaningful difference. It is an invitation to engage with creativity, compassion, and community support, all within the inspiring setting of one of Colombo’s most respected art galleries.
