The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) International announced an upcoming high-level global webinar titled “From Stereotypes to Strategy: Building a Nation’s Narrative,” scheduled for the 30th of April 2026 at 12:00pm (BST) / 4:30pm (SL Time). The event will convene leading voices in strategic communications, public diplomacy, and reputation management to explore how nations can move beyond outdated stereotypes and craft compelling, authentic narratives in an increasingly complex global landscape.

As geopolitical shifts, digital transformation, and cultural interconnectedness reshape how countries are perceived, the ability to define and communicate a nation’s identity has never been more critical. This free webinar, offering 5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits, is designed to equip communications professionals, policymakers, academics, and business leaders with insights into the evolving practice of nation branding and strategic storytelling. The session will feature a distinguished panel of experts with global experience across public relations, academia, and international advisory roles.

Farzana Baduel, President, Chartered Institute of Public Relations (UK) and Founder / CEO of Curzon PR, will bring a practitioner’s perspective shaped by her work advising governments, multinational corporations, and global institutions. A Chartered PR Practitioner and Honorary Fellow of CIPR, Baduel is also the Resident PR Expert at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. Her extensive experience in leadership communications and reputation strategy positions her at the forefront of modern public relations practice.

Joining her is Rezani Aziz, Founding CEO of Adfactors PR Sri Lanka, whose career spans over two decades in corporate communications, public affairs, and advocacy. Aziz has led high-impact campaigns for multinational companies and industry bodies, with a particular emphasis on crisis management, stakeholder engagement, and women’s leadership development. Her work reflects a deep understanding of emerging markets and the role of communications in shaping national and corporate reputations.

Dr. Alina Dolea, Associate Professor in Strategic Communication and Public Diplomacy, will contribute an academic lens grounded in cutting-edge research. Her work examines the intersection of public diplomacy, nation branding, migration, and media, with a particular focus on discourse and the influence of non-state actors. A Fulbright Senior Scholar and award-winning researcher, Dr Dolea’s insights into diasporas, emotions, and transnational communication offer a nuanced understanding of how national narratives are constructed and contested in today’s world.

The session will be moderated by Eva Maclaine, Special Advisor to CIPR International and a globally respected communications strategist. With extensive experience advising governments and major organisations across Europe, Asia Pacific, and beyond, Maclaine specialises in strategy, reputation, and change management. A Fellow of CIPR and recipient of multiple international awards, she brings a wealth of expertise in designing impactful public awareness campaigns and guiding complex communication initiatives.

    Addressing a Critical Global Challenge

The webinar will explore key themes central to contemporary nation branding and public diplomacy, including:

    • Moving beyond stereotypes to develop authentic and inclusive national narratives
    • The role of strategic communication in shaping international perception
    • The influence of diaspora communities and non-state actors
    • Managing reputation in times of crisis and uncertainty
    • Leveraging storytelling to enhance soft power and global influence

In a world where perception often drives economic opportunity, diplomatic relations, and cultural exchange, the ability to articulate a coherent and credible national story is essential. Countries are no longer defined solely by geography or policy, but by how effectively they communicate their values, strengths, and aspirations.

A Platform for Learning and Collaboration

The webinar forms part of CIPR International’s ongoing commitment to advancing professional standards and fostering global dialogue within the communications industry. By bringing together diverse perspectives from practice and academia, the session aims to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application. The event is open to professionals across sectors, including public relations, government, international relations, marketing, media and academia.
