In the heart of Colombo Fort, where history meets modern charm, a lovely new cafe has opened its doors, The Fort Cafe by Tasty Caterers, one of Sri Lanka’s most trusted names in food for over 40 years, this cafe brings a fresh and elegant experience to Colombo’s busy professionals, shoppers, tourists, and food lovers.
I recently visited The Fort Cafe for their high tea, and it was a delightful experience. With a perfect blend of flavors, cozy ambiance, and friendly service, this cafe quickly became one of my favorite spots in the city. The high tea menu was impressive, offering a mix of cold canapes, hot canapes, and sweet treats. Each item was beautifully presented and thoughtfully made. The menu includes:
Cold Canapes
Asparagus & cheese sandwich, Vegetable pinwheel, BBQ chicken sandwich, Roast beef sandwich with black mustard cream, Smoked salmon blini with cream cheese, fennel & capers served with spiced cocktail dip, Grilled prawn crostini with button mushroom & avocado salsa, Chicken & cheese bouchee, Stuffed eggs with beetroot relish & cheesy egg yolk cream, baked cherry apple & cranberry chutney topped with feta cheese, cheddar & crispy bacon.
Hot Canapes
Thai flavoured prawn vol-au-vent, Mini crab tarts with roasted bell pepper & cocktail dip, Baked ravioli with chicken & parmesan served on spoons.
Sweets
Butterscotch eclair, Strawberry & cream Swiss roll slice, Lemon & meringue cake, Caramel & walnut slice.
Out of all these delicious items, my personal favorites were the Grilled prawn crostini with button mushroom & avocado salsa and the Baked ravioli with chicken & parmesan served on spoons. The prawn crostini had a fresh and rich flavor, while the ravioli was warm, cheesy, and perfectly seasoned. My friend couldn't stop talking about the Roast beef sandwich with black mustard cream. She loved it so much that she’s already planning her next visit just for that sandwich! Most of the items on the menu had a lovely, balanced taste, with both classic and creative flavors. Whether you love seafood, chicken, or vegetarian options, there’s something for everyone.

While the high tea was the highlight of our visit, The Fort Cafe also offers a full à la carte menu. Whether you’re in the mood for a meal, dessert, or coffee, the cafe has a wide variety to choose from. They are also open for special occasions and custom events. There’s space available on both floors for private celebrations. The cafe usually closes at 8:30 PM, but for special events, they can stay open until 10:30 PM. Prices for gatherings and celebrations can be adjusted to suit the customer's needs, which makes it even more convenient if you’re planning a birthday, anniversary, or corporate event.
Kanthi Jayamaha, the founder of The Fort Cafe and many other Tasty outlets, shared that this cafe is a special addition to the Tasty family. According to her, "We have pastries, desserts, meals, and drinks at the counters. We also serve good coffee and a variety of beverages. This place is ideal to celebrate special moments. Since it's located in Fort, it’s perfect for corporates and others who want to host parties or hang out." She added that their a la carte menu is interesting and reasonably priced, and they are happy to offer custom-made menus for dinners and parties.
