  • Readings from “Bonsoir Katha”, the Sinhala translation by Ciara Mendis of “The Bonsoir Diaries” (2013), based on the iconic television programme Bonsoir, presented by the Embassy of France, was recently held at Expographics Book Store in celebration of Kumar de Silva completing 40 years on the small screen.

The event brought together an array of media personalities, Sri Lankan beauty queens, screen legends, and most importantly fans of Bonsoir, to celebrate the legacy of Bonsoir, which became a memorable part of Sri Lankan television since its debut in 1985.  This publication reflects on the journey, stories, and experiences connected to the much-loved programme over the decades.

In a surprise gesture Kumar also shared his celebration with his long-time friend and award-winning actress Yashodha Wimaladharma who also celebrates her 40 year screen journey this year. Still a schoolgirl at St Paul’s Milagiriya, Yashodha first appeared in the “Aththa Bindei” television series on Rupavahini in 1986, months before she sat for her OL exam in December the same year.

Guests attending the launch also had the opportunity to meet Kumar de Silva and take part in the special celebration marking his contribution to Sri Lanka’s media and entertainment industry.
