WINSPIRATION 5.0: Shaping a Future Ready Generation of Sri Lankan Youth.

By: Thasmina Sookoor
In an era shaped by rapid technological advancement, artificial intelligence, and an increasingly competitive global economy, the definition of education is undergoing a profound transformation. Traditional learning models, while still valuable, are no longer sufficient on their own to prepare young people for the complex realities of the modern world. Today’s youth must be equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills, ethical grounding, adaptability, and a forward-thinking mindset. Recognizing this urgent need, New Generation Sri Lanka, the country’s first professional organization dedicated to youth development, has launched WINSPIRATION 5.0, marking its fifth consecutive year of empowering the next generation.
Held under the theme “Future Ready Careers, AI and Entrepreneurship for the Next Generation,” WINSPIRATION 5.0 is designed as far more than a conventional mentorship initiative. It is a carefully structured and deeply transformative journey that seeks to bridge the persistent gap between education and industry. At its heart lies a commitment to nurturing a generation of young individuals who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also ethical, confident, and capable of leading with purpose.
One of the defining strengths of WINSPIRATION 5.0 is its commitment to inclusivity and national representation. The program brings together participants from across all districts of Sri Lanka, creating a truly diverse and dynamic platform for youth engagement. It caters to individuals between the ages of fifteen and thirty, encompassing school students who have completed their Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations, university undergraduates navigating academic pathways, early career professionals seeking direction, and young entrepreneurs striving to turn ideas into reality.
This diversity is not incidental but intentional. By creating a space where individuals from different educational, professional, and social backgrounds come together, the program fosters a rich exchange of perspectives. Participants are exposed to new ideas, challenged to think beyond their immediate environments, and encouraged to collaborate across boundaries. This environment of shared learning becomes a powerful catalyst for innovation, creativity, and personal growth.
The structure of WINSPIRATION 5.0 reflects a deep understanding of what young people need in order to succeed in today’s world. The program is built around seven carefully curated modules, each designed to address a critical aspect of personal and professional development. These modules are delivered by accomplished local and international professionals who bring with them a wealth of real-world experience and insight.
Participants begin their journey by exploring professional identity and career mapping under the guidance of Dr. Hemendra Premawardane. This module encourages individuals to reflect on their strengths, values, and aspirations while providing practical tools to chart a meaningful career path. It lays the foundation for self-awareness, which is essential for long term success.
Leadership development is another central pillar of the program. Through sessions led by Jerome Adams, participants gain a deeper understanding of what it means to lead in a modern context. They learn that leadership is not confined to titles or positions but is reflected in actions, decisions, and the ability to inspire others. The module emphasizes communication, emotional intelligence, and ethical decision making.
Entrepreneurship is addressed through a dedicated module led by Udana Wickramasinghe, focusing on cultivating a start-up mindset. Participants are introduced to the principles of innovation, problem solving, and value creation. They are encouraged to think critically about opportunities, challenges, and the process of building sustainable ventures.
Financial literacy and wealth building, led by Mihika de Silva, equip participants with essential knowledge often overlooked in traditional education systems. Understanding how to manage finances, invest wisely, and plan for the future is critical for both personal stability and entrepreneurial success.
In recognition of the growing importance of technology, the program also includes a module on artificial intelligence and cyber security, conducted by Anish Iyer. This component ensures that participants are not only aware of emerging technologies but are also prepared to engage with them responsibly and effectively.
Each module is designed to go beyond theoretical learning. The focus is on practical application, encouraging participants to develop skills that can be directly translated into real world contexts. This approach ensures that learning is not passive but active, engaging, and impactful.
What truly distinguishes WINSPIRATION 5.0, however, is its emphasis on experiential learning and industry exposure. The program recognizes that knowledge alone is not enough. Young people must also understand how industries function, how decisions are made, and what it takes to succeed in professional environments.
One of the most anticipated features of the program is the “Meet the CEO” session. Introduced in the previous year, this initiative provides participants with a rare opportunity to interact directly with corporate leaders. These sessions offer invaluable insights into leadership, strategy, and decision making at the highest levels. For many participants, it is a chance to ask questions, gain clarity, and be inspired by real life success stories.
Aspiring entrepreneurs are given a platform to present their ideas through a structured start up pitching session. This experience not only encourages innovation but also builds confidence and resilience. Participants learn how to articulate their ideas, respond to feedback, and refine their concepts. It is a process that mirrors real world entrepreneurial challenges, preparing them for future ventures.
In addition to these opportunities, participants are required to complete assignments and deliver individual presentations throughout the program. These activities are designed to enhance communication skills, critical thinking, and personal accountability. By the end of the program, participants are not only more knowledgeable but also more confident in their ability to express themselves and take ownership of their goals.
The journey of WINSPIRATION 5.0 culminates in a grand graduation ceremony scheduled to be held at the CIMA Auditorium on 20th June 2026. This event is more than a formal conclusion. It is a celebration of transformation, marking the progress of participants as they step forward as future ready individuals equipped with the skills, mindset, and values needed to succeed.
At its core, WINSPIRATION 5.0 is guided by a powerful vision. It seeks to build a generation that leads with integrity, delivers with accountability, and contributes meaningfully to national development. This vision is particularly significant in a time when many young people face uncertainty and a lack of direction.
Founder of New Generation Sri Lanka, Dr. Sulochana Segera, highlights the importance of guided mentorship in navigating today’s complex landscape. She emphasizes that many young individuals invest significant time and resources in fragmented learning experiences without clear direction. Programs like WINSPIRATION address this gap by connecting participants with the right mentors and providing structured guidance that aligns with both personal aspirations and industry needs.
A particularly inspiring aspect of this year’s program is the leadership transition within the organization itself. Two former participants, Onaya Kulatunga and Dilshani Wijetunga, have taken on leadership roles within New Generation Sri Lanka. Their journeys began as mentees in earlier editions of the WINSPIRATION program, with Onaya emerging from the third cohort and Dilshani from the inaugural batch.
Their progression from participants to leaders serves as a powerful testament to the impact of the program. It demonstrates how structured mentorship, consistent support, and meaningful opportunities can shape individuals into confident and capable professionals. Their stories are not just personal achievements but symbols of what is possible for every participant who embarks on this journey.
As Sri Lanka looks toward the future, initiatives like WINSPIRATION 5.0 stand as beacons of hope. By investing in youth through mentorship, skills development, and industry engagement, the program is contributing to the creation of a generation that is prepared to face challenges, seize opportunities, and drive progress.
The significance of this initiative extends beyond individual success. It reflects a broader belief that the future of the nation depends on the strength, integrity, and capability of its young people. When youth are empowered with the right tools and guidance, they become catalysts for innovation, social change, and sustainable development.
WINSPIRATION 5.0 is not merely preparing participants for employment. It is preparing them for leadership, impact, and a future that demands both competence and character. As the program continues to evolve and expand, its mission remains clear. It is shaping a generation that is ready not only to adapt to change but to lead it with vision and purpose.
