The Body Shop Marks 10 Years in Sri Lanka with a New Flagship Boutique at One Galle Face

Celebrating 10 successful years in Sri Lanka, British-born and globally-loved ethical beauty brand The Body Shop has unveiled its newest boutique at the prestigious One Galle Face Mall, marking a significant milestone in its local journey. This special launch was accompanied by an exclusive festive preview, offering customers an immersive glimpse into the brand’s upcoming collections and renewed commitment to conscious beauty. Since its entry into the Sri Lankan market in 2015 through Quest Holdings Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, The Body Shop has steadily built a loyal customer base by blending high-performance products with purpose-driven values, and the new OGF store stands as a symbol of this growth and evolution.

Situated within one of Colombo’s most premium lifestyle destinations, the new boutique highlights The Body Shop’s dedication to sustainability, inclusivity and environmental responsibility. The flagship workshop-style design reflects the brand’s global ethos of activism and ethical sourcing, providing customers not just a retail space but an experience that connects them to the story behind each product. Shoppers can now explore the brand’s entire portfolio spanning skincare, body care, hair care and fragrances, while also engaging with its pioneering initiatives such as the Return Repeat Recycle programme and Community Fair Trade partnerships that empower farming communities across the world.

The launch event was graced by esteemed guests including H.E. Andrew Patrick, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, The Body Shop Sri Lanka Director Kosala Rohana Wickramanayake, Shriti Malhotra, Executive Chairperson of Quest Retail and The Body Shop South Asia, and Vishal Chaturvedi, Chief Revenue Officer of The Body Shop South Asia. Speaking at the occasion, Shriti Malhotra highlighted the brand’s journey and connection with local consumers, stating, “The new store reaffirms The Body Shop’s commitment to Sri Lanka and celebrates the vibrancy and resilience of Sri Lankan customers who have embraced The Body Shop’s legacy as a pioneering brand, leading with highly efficacious products with values-driven ethos. Our customers, old and new, can now preview our festive season’s new collections while also having continued access to the brand’s iconic classics.”

Kosala Rohana Wickramanayake further added, “Celebrating our decade-long presence here with the launch of this immersive new shopping experience marks the start of a new chapter of authentic, purposeful beauty for our Sri Lankan consumers.” This sentiment echoed through the atmosphere of the event, reinforcing The Body Shop’s position as a brand that consistently prioritises purpose alongside performance.

As part of its festive showcase, The Body Shop unveiled three exclusive scents for its 2025 holiday range; Caramel Cuddle, Cranberry Crush and Sugarplum Passion. Each range features an assortment of Bath & Shower Gel, Body Butter, Body Yoghurt, Hand Balm and Body Mist, allowing customers to indulge in a complete sensory experience. For those who value thoughtful gifting, the brand also introduced its Create-Your-Own gift boxes, enabling customers to curate personalised sets that reflect both care and creativity. These festive collections further cement The Body Shop’s reputation as a go-to destination for meaningful, ethically produced gifts with sustainable packaging.

Beyond its physical presence and product offerings, The Body Shop continues to distinguish itself through its unwavering commitment to ethical practices and sustainability. This is powerfully reflected in insights shared by the brand’s leadership, offering a deeper understanding of what truly sets it apart in a competitive beauty market. Below are insights shared by :

With so many beauty brands in the market today, what makes The Body Shop special compared to others?

The Body Shop is a nearly 50-year-old UK heritage global beauty brand built on strong business ethics. It is one of the pioneers of ethical beauty. In terms of sourcing and ingredients, the brand uses ethically sourced, high-quality natural ingredients from all over the world. It is guided by strong principles of sustainable sourcing, Community Fair Trade, and sustainability as a business model, ensuring minimal impact on the environment. Beyond being just a beauty brand, The Body Shop stays closely connected to people and the planet.

How did The Body Shop start and how is it performing today?

The Body Shop was founded in the UK 50 years ago by activist Anita Roddick, who believed that businesses should not exist only for profit but should also create a social impact. She promoted women’s entrepreneurship and supported small farming communities by sourcing ingredients directly from them. This made the brand unique from the beginning. Today, The Body Shop continues to evolve as a multi-category brand offering naturally effective skincare, body care, hair care, fragrances, and gifts. It is an inclusive brand for all consumers, across all age groups and skin types, encouraging everyone to embrace its products.

Why did you get the idea to start The Body Shop at One Galle Face?

One Galle Face is the most happening and premium retail destination, and it is a location we always wanted to be part of. We were waiting for the right time to establish our presence there. Although we could have opened the store much earlier, we wanted to ensure the timing was right. OGF is the best location for brand visibility and customer engagement, which is why we chose it for our store.

What were the main challenges you faced in bringing The Body Shop to this level of success?

I wouldn’t really say there were major challenges. Every country naturally has its own set of regulations and compliances that we must follow. However, from a The Body Shop perspective, we have always had a first-mover advantage in South Asia. In India, we were the first international beauty brand, and in Sri Lanka, we entered the market early in 2015, almost 10 years ago. So overall, it has been a steady journey rather than a difficult one. Founded in 1976 by visionary activist Anita Roddick, The Body Shop transformed the global beauty industry by introducing cruelty-free practices and championing ethical beauty long before it became a mainstream movement. Built on the belief that business could be a force for good, the brand has continued to set benchmarks through its commitment to sustainability, social justice and environmental stewardship.

With more than 90% natural-origin ingredients and fully vegetarian, largely vegan formulations, The Body Shop remains dedicated to ensuring transparency, traceability and responsibility across all stages of production.

-----------------

In Sri Lanka, the brand has grown into a trusted leader in ethical beauty, standing for inclusivity, community empowerment and conscious consumerism. Its products are celebrated not only for their effectiveness but for the values they carry, empowering customers to make beauty choices that align with their personal principles. From skincare essentials to indulgent bath rituals and thoughtful gifts, The Body Shop has become synonymous with purpose-driven luxury. As it steps into its next chapter with the launch of the One Galle Face boutique, The Body Shop continues to strengthen its bond with Sri Lankan consumers by offering authentic experiences, innovative collections and a deeper connection to its legacy. This milestone is not simply a celebration of a decade, but a reaffirmation of the brand’s promise, to empower individuals, protect the planet and redefine beauty with purpose, integrity and care.
