Sri Lankan Youth Project CharitABLE “CharitABLE” Earns Global Recognition with R.O.A.R Award Nomination

Originally launched by Interactors from Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Carey College, and St. Lawrence’s Convent, CharitABLE has evolved over the years into a multi-dimensional legacy of service

A youth-led initiative born in Sri Lanka has now captured the attention of the global service community. CharitABLE, a service project that began as a grassroots effort, has been officially nominated for the prestigious Global R.O.A.R Awards, which recognize outstanding youth-led initiatives with sustainable humanitarian impact.

Originally launched by Interactors from Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Carey College, and St. Lawrence’s Convent, CharitABLE has evolved over the years into a multi-dimensional legacy of service. It has since welcomed the support of other Interact Clubs, including Ave Maria Convent, Sujatha Vidyalaya, and Visakha Vidyalaya, expanding its scope and footprint across the island.
In recent years, CharitABLE addressed pressing needs within local communities, providing essential stationery to underserved schoolchildren and medical equipment to under-resourced hospitals. Each year, the initiative has aligned itself with a tangible cause that uplifts lives through targeted interventions.
In 2024, the project took a bold step toward international impact. Under the leadership of Rtr. Ahmadh Booso, President of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort, CharitABLE 2024 focused on the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, integrating creative advocacy with direct action. A theatrical performance titled “Patterns of Our Genocides”, produced by the Stages Theatre Group, along with a series of powerful seminars, brought awareness to the crisis. The project successfully raised LKR 200,000, of which LKR 100,000 was donated to the Embassy of Palestine in Sri Lanka, and LKR 100,000 was sent to Sulala Animal Rescue in Gaza, providing aid to both civilians and animals affected by war.

The Rotaract Club of Colombo Fort played a critical role in scaling the project’s ambition and reach. With the Rotaract Club’s strategic guidance, the project achieved not only strong community engagement but also international visibility, leading to its nomination for the Global R.O.A.R Award.
This milestone celebrates not only the generosity of the Sri Lankan youth but also the power of collaboration across generations of Interactors and Rotaractors, unified by purpose.
CharitABLE is more than a project, it is a movement that champions empathy, equity, and youth-led activism. Its growing impact stands as a powerful call to future Interactors, Rotaractors, and global citizens to continue carrying the torch of change.
