The truce, announced by President Trump, aimed to halt military actions following a deadly attack on Indian tourists. However, within hours, both nations accused each other of violations, with explosions reported in Srinagar and Peshawar. Despite initial optimism, the ceasefire’s durability remains uncertain as tensions persist.

2 President Donald Trump Announces India-Pakistan Ceasefire

President Donald Trump declared a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan via Truth Social, crediting U.S. mediation efforts. The agreement followed intense diplomatic talks involving Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance. While the announcement was met with cautious optimism, subsequent reports of ceasefire breaches have cast doubt on its effectiveness.

3 European Leaders Demand Russia Ceasefire in Ukraine

European leaders, including those from the UK, France, Germany, and Poland, convened in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, urging Russia to agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire or face intensified sanctions. China’s Vice-Premier He Lifeng expressed optimism ahead of renewed trade talks with the U.S., marking the first formal discussions since President Trump’s return to office. Beijing introduced stimulus measures to bolster its economy amid ongoing tariff disputes. The talks aim to ease tensions and address issues like tariffs and market access.

Severe rainfall led to devastating floods in Mogadishu, Somalia, resulting in at least seven deaths. The floods destroyed homes and displaced numerous residents, exacerbating the country’s humanitarian crisis. Authorities are working to provide relief and prevent further casualties as the region braces for more adverse weather.

10​ Houthi Missile Attack on Tel Aviv Airport Escalates Regional Tensions

On May 4, 2025, the Houthi movement in Yemen launched a hypersonic ballistic missile targeting Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel. The missile struck near the main terminal, injuring eight people and causing significant disruptions to air traffic, with several major airlines suspending flights. Israel’s missile defence systems failed to intercept the projectile, raising concerns about the effectiveness of its air defence capabilities. In retaliation, Israel conducted airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, including attacks on Hodeidah Port and Sanaa International Airport, resulting in casualties and infrastructure damage. This exchange marks a significant escalation in the ongoing Red Sea crisis and highlights the increasing reach of Houthi missile technology.
