The AluthPola Returns Shop Local, Save Lives

  • Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 29th, when The AluthPola, a vibrant pop-up market and fundraiser organised by Justice for Animals, will be held from 10:00am to 6:00pm at Body Bar,No. 3 Jawatte Avenue, Colombo 05.

More than just a market, The AluthPola is a celebration of conscious living, compassion, and community spirit. Organised by Justice for Animals, a registered non-profit animal welfare organisation, the event aims to raise funds for vital spay-neuter-vaccinate programmes that provide veterinary care for stray and community animals in Sri Lanka’s underserved rural areas.
Justice for Animals has long been dedicated to reducing the suffering of street animals by tackling the issue at its root. Through their holistic, proactive programmes, which include sterilisation, vaccination, treatment, and feeding, they not only improve animal welfare but also contribute significantly to public health, particularly in rabies prevention. By focusing on low-income communities that lack veterinary access, their work addresses both an animal welfare crisis and a public health challenge in a sustainable way.
The AluthPola is your opportunity to be a part of this meaningful mission while enjoying a fantastic day out. Visitors can expect a curated mix of stalls featuring everything from homegrown plants and delicious baked goods to artisanal food, pre-loved books and clothes, handwoven reed baskets, jewellery, artwork, and eco-conscious fashion. With something for everyone, the event also supports a wide range of local entrepreneurs, small businesses, and other charities working across Sri Lanka.
What sets this market apart is its deeper purpose. Each purchase made and donation given helps fund life-saving veterinary services for animals who would otherwise go untreated. In turn, this supports the country’s larger efforts to manage its stray dog population humanely and eliminate rabies - a pressing issue in many parts of Sri Lanka.
In essence, The AluthPola is a win-win for all: animals in need receive crucial care, rural communities become safer and healthier, small businesses gain visibility, and shoppers enjoy a day of feel-good retail therapy.
Whether you’re looking for a thoughtful gift, a unique handmade piece, or just want to spend your Sunday making a difference, The AluthPola welcomes everyone with open arms. Come by, meet the Justice for Animals team, discover inspiring local makers, and show your support for a cause that matters.
Your presence can help change, and even save, lives.
