Masma EAT Restaurant A Taste of Sri Lanka’s Island BBQ Delight

If you're looking to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan BBQ flavors with a modern twist, then Masma EAT Restaurant is a must-visit. Located in Pelawatta, with other outlets in Kottawa and Nugegoda, Masma EAT brings the warmth and bold flavors of Sri Lankan cooking straight to your table. We had the pleasure of visiting their Pelawatta branch, and from the moment we walked in, we were impressed. The outlet is modern, clean, and spacious, a perfect place for a casual meal with friends or a family get-together. The service was fast and friendly, which added to the pleasant dining experience. Masma EAT was started in 2019, with a mission to bring authentic Sri Lankan BBQ to the people. They have grown quickly, now serving customers at multiple locations across the island. What makes them stand out is their commitment to using traditional Sri Lankan spices and grilling techniques passed down through generations. And it really shows in the taste of their food. Here’s a review of what we ordered and experienced at Masma EAT Pelawatta.

01.Fettuccine Pasta with Grilled Chicken

Let’s start with a surprising dish, Fettuccine Pasta with grilled chicken. At first, we weren’t expecting a Sri Lankan BBQ place to do pasta so well, but it was a delightful surprise. The pasta was cooked just right, not too soft, not too firm, and the grilled chicken was tender and flavorful. The sauce was slightly spicy, giving it an international flavor with a local touch. It’s perfect for those who want to try something a bit different but still crave bold flavors. A great fusion dish that’s worth a try.

02.Seafood Mongolian Rice

This dish is a dream come true for any seafood lover. It was packed with fresh seafood like prawns and cuttlefish, and the flavors were well-balanced. The seafood was perfectly marinated, not too spicy but full of taste. What made it extra special were the fresh vegetables, bell peppers, carrots, spring onions, and capsicum, all tossed in fluffy basmati rice. The dish was served with Masma’s special chili paste, which added an extra layer of heat and flavor. This is a must-try if you enjoy seafood with a punch.

03. Jumbo Prawns

The name says it all, these were truly jumbo prawns, grilled to perfection. We were impressed by the size and how juicy and tender they were on the inside, with a delicious char on the outside. You can choose two side dishes to go with your prawns. We picked the roasted garlic rice and grilled vegetables, and both were tasty and went perfectly with the prawns.
The dish also came with tomato salsa and a white wine sauce, which added a fresh and slightly tangy taste. It was a well-rounded dish and one of the stars of our meal.

04. Grilled Chicken Meal

This is a classic BBQ dish, a grilled chicken leg marinated with Sri Lankan spices, full of smoky and spicy flavor. It was cooked just right, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The chicken came with mashed potatoes, garlic bread, and a choice of sauces, we tried the BBQ sauce and the spicy Kochchi sauce (made from hot Sri Lankan chilies). Both sauces were excellent, and the mashed potatoes were creamy and smooth. A satisfying and hearty meal.

05. Chicken Schnitzel Meal

This was the first time we tried a Chicken Schnitzel at a Sri Lankan BBQ place, and we were pleasantly surprised. The breaded chicken cutlets were fried to a perfect golden brown. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with melted mozzarella cheese on top and a rich tomato concasse (a fancy name for tomato sauce) that brought everything together. It was served with sauteed potatoes, which were buttery and lightly seasoned. This dish felt a bit more Western, but still had that Masma EAT signature touch. Everyone on our team enjoyed it, especially those who wanted a break from spicier dishes.

06. Tropical   Sunshine (Drink) Meal

With all the spicy and flavorful dishes, we needed something refreshing to drink. Tropical Sunshine was the perfect choice. This fruity beverage was not only colorful but also full of flavor. It was cool, sweet, and had a mix of tropical fruits that felt like sipping sunshine on a beach. Each sip was refreshing and helped balance out the spices from the food. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a non-alcoholic drink to enjoy with your meal.

Masma EAT is more than just another BBQ place. It brings true Sri Lankan island hospitality to your table. The staff are polite, quick, and always ready to recommend something special. You can really feel the community spirit in the way they serve food and interact with customers. The restaurant combines modern dining comfort with traditional cooking methods, which is a rare but perfect mix. Whether you're in the mood for spicy grilled meats, seafood, pasta, or a cheesy chicken cutlet, there’s something for everyone here. They take great care in how they marinate and grill their food, ensuring every bite is full of flavor. The use of authentic Sri Lankan spice blends adds a unique taste you won’t find in most BBQ restaurants. The Pelawatta outlet is clean, well-maintained, and quite spacious. It has both indoor and outdoor seating, making it great for all kinds of gatherings, from family dinners to casual outings with friends. The location is easy to find, and parking is available nearby. Their service is fast and efficient, even when the place is busy. We didn’t have to wait long for our food, and the staff kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Masma EAT Restaurant is one of the best places in Sri Lanka to enjoy authentic BBQ with a flavorful, modern twist.
