In one of the most ambitious rebranding moves by a Sri Lankan hospitality group in recent years, Maitland & Knox Heritage Hotels has unveiled a striking new identity: Island Life,
Sri Lanka. The reimagined brand signals a dynamic shift towards experiential, all-inclusive hospitality rooted in authenticity, curation, and immersive storytelling.
Known for its iconic properties, Galle Fort Hotel, Thotalagala, and The Warden’s House, the luxury boutique hotel group is now positioning itself as “custodians of the perfect Sri Lankan experience.” The transformation marks a new era in which guests are invited to feel Sri Lanka, not just visit it.
1.A New Identity for a New Philosophy
The Island Life logo, inspired by the duality of coast and highlands, captures the essence of Sri Lanka’s contrasting landscapes. A wave symbolises tranquil beaches, while a peak reflects the island’s wild hill country, together representing a rhythm of serenity and adventure.
“This rebrand is not just cosmetic; it’s a philosophical shift,” says Amrit Rajaratnam, Founder and Managing Director of Island Life, Sri Lanka. “We’re evolving into a lifestyle brand that places curated experiences at the heart of everything. From design to dining to discovery, it’s about meaningful engagement and creating lasting memories.”
2.Expanding the Island Life Footprint
With the launch, Island Life also welcomes two new destinations into its portfolio: Hiriketiya, the southern surf haven, and Kandy, the cultural capital of the hill country. These additions allow travellers to journey seamlessly through the island under one hospitality umbrella, experiencing regional diversity while enjoying a consistent level of curated luxury.
Shayan Kannangara, Chief Operating Officer, explains, “Guests can now book multi-region itineraries, from Galle’s colonial charm and Yala’s wilderness to Haputale’s tea country, with the assurance of one trusted brand. Island Life simplifies Sri Lankan travel while enriching it.”
3.The Island Life Experience
The Island Life approach is defined by five core pillars:
Sanctuary: Spaces designed for reflection and rest, featuring heritage architecture and immersive sensory details.
Adventure: Activities that merge exploration and learning, including conservation walks, cycling, and cooking classes.
Memories: Personalised moments – from handmade keepsakes to shared stories over locally sourced meals.
Indulgence: A celebration of Sri Lankan flavours, from elegant dining to village-style culinary feasts.
Responsibility: A commitment to community upliftment and environmental stewardship woven into every experience.
Each property now also offers signature branded merchandise, from safari hats and water bottles at The Warden’s House to hiking socks at Thotalagala, thoughtfully designed to reflect the soul of each destination.
