Outhouse Jewellery Brings Sculptural Glamour to Colombo

Colombo’s chicest multi-brand fashion destination, The Design Collective, will host an exclusive two-day trunk show spotlighting the iconic Indian luxury jewellery house Outhouse Jewellery. Scheduled for 1st November (12pm–7pm) and 2nd November (10am–6pm) at The Design Collective Store, 28 Stratford Avenue, Colombo 6, the showcase invites guests to indulge in an intimate, immersive exploration of Outhouse’s bold and sculptural approach to jewellery design.

Known for its dynamic, contemporary aesthetic and artistic craftsmanship, Outhouse Jewellery has become a name synonymous with statement-making luxury. This special showcase marks a unique opportunity for Colombo’s fashion enthusiasts to explore the brand’s latest collection; a fusion of avant-garde artistry and wearable design.
Where Craftsmanship Meets Art
Founded in 2012 by sisters Kaabia and Sasha Grewal, Outhouse Jewellery has transformed the landscape of contemporary Indian accessories. The brand has redefined what it means to wear jewellery, presenting each piece not merely as an ornament, but as a work of art that reflects individuality, confidence, and imagination. The sisters’ creative philosophy is rooted in their shared belief that jewellery should tell a story. Their collections, rich with bold forms, vibrant materials, and intricate detailing, invite the wearer to embody the essence of the “Outhouse Woman”: expressive, fearless, and effortlessly chic. From Swarovski crystals to semi-precious stones, leather, and metals, each Outhouse creation strikes a perfect balance between heritage craftsmanship and modern design. The pieces often draw inspiration from nature, architecture, and cosmic symbolism, giving rise to jewellery that transcends trend and time.
A Trunk Show with a Purpose
The upcoming trunk show at The Design Collective is more than a retail experience, it’s a celebration of artistry, craftsmanship, and cross-cultural creativity. Guests will have the opportunity to try on exclusive designs, interact with brand representatives, and discover limited-edition pieces that highlight Outhouse’s boundary-pushing creativity. The two-day event has been carefully curated to reflect both brands’ shared ethos: a commitment to showcasing South Asian excellence in fashion and design while creating an inclusive space for style innovation. “This collaboration is very much aligned with our mission at The Design Collective,” says Binu Wickramasinghe, co-founder of The Design Collective. “We’ve always sought to bridge Sri Lankan and South Asian design with global perspectives. Hosting Outhouse here in Colombo is a celebration of that vision, it’s about giving our customers access to the kind of artistry that’s shaping contemporary luxury across the region.”
The Design Collective: A Platform for South Asian Creativity
Since its founding in 2017 by Binu Wickramasinghe and Shahili Gomes-McCoy, The Design Collective has become one of Sri Lanka’s foremost concept stores, a space that celebrates fashion, art, and culture through a distinctly South Asian lens. The idea was born out of friendship and a shared dream. Shahili, a graduate of Imperial College Business School, drew on her experiences working in London and Copenhagen, while Binu, an alumna of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (New Delhi) and the London College of Fashion, brought deep industry knowledge and a passion for design storytelling.
Together, they created a brand that celebrates creativity and collaboration. Today, The Design Collective curates over 100 independent Sri Lankan and South Asian fashion and beauty labels, representing a new wave of regional designers redefining luxury through originality and sustainability. It’s a creative ecosystem, part store, part gallery, where ideas flourish, and emerging talent meets discerning audiences. From hosting capsule collections and designer showcases to fostering meaningful conversations about design, sustainability, and identity, The Design Collective has become a cultural hub for Sri Lanka’s style-conscious community. “Our goal has always been to provide a platform for creative exchange,” explains Shahili Gomes-McCoy. “When brands like Outhouse collaborate with us, it not only elevates the retail experience but also connects Sri Lankan consumers to the wider South Asian creative movement.”
Outhouse: A Global Luxury Story Rooted in India
In just over a decade, Outhouse Jewellery has become one of India’s leading luxury bridge jewellery labels. Its innovative aesthetic and avant-garde design language have earned the brand a loyal following among celebrities, stylists, and collectors alike. The brand’s presence spans from high-profile red-carpet events to fashion editorials in global magazines, and collaborations with designers at prestigious fashion weeks. Each collection showcases the Grewal sisters’ fearless experimentation with materials, form, and scale, merging old-world artistry with futuristic sensibilities. While Outhouse’s pieces are deeply rooted in Indian craftsmanship traditions, their aesthetic speaks an international language, one of bold individuality and unrestrained creativity. Whether it’s a statement choker, a celestial-inspired ear cuff, or a sculptural bracelet, each creation embodies both heritage and rebellion.
A Weekend of Design and Discovery
The Outhouse x The Design Collective Trunk Show invites visitors to step into a world where fashion meets fine art. Over two days, guests will get to experience the tactile beauty of the brand’s craftsmanship, pieces that shimmer with personality, confidence, and emotion. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the collection, experiment with styling, and find pieces that speak to their own sense of self-expression. Whether you’re a collector, a connoisseur of design, or simply someone with an eye for beauty, this showcase promises a rare glimpse into the evolution of contemporary South Asian luxury. The event also underscores a growing cultural exchange between Colombo and other South Asian design capitals such as Delhi and Mumbai; a reminder that the region’s creative voices are stronger together. “This trunk show is more than a collaboration; it’s a cultural conversation,” says Binu. “We’re bringing together the finest craftsmanship from India with Sri Lanka’s thriving creative community, and that’s something to celebrate.” Guests are welcome to visit, explore, and experience the artistry of Outhouse Jewellery in person.
A Celebration of Design Without Borders
As Colombo’s fashion landscape continues to evolve, events like the Outhouse Trunk Show are a testament to the city’s growing appetite for global design experiences. The collaboration between Outhouse and The Design Collective not only brings a touch of avant-garde luxury to Sri Lanka but also celebrates a shared creative heritage that transcends borders. It’s a meeting of minds, and materials, where craftsmanship, culture, and creativity converge in dazzling form.
