This special event is dedicated to a noble cause - the creation of a medical fund to support retired Ladies’ College staff in times of need. Anushka Abhayartne
Anushka Abhayartne is a Mechanical Engineering (BEng & MSc) graduate from Imperial College, London UK. She is a past pupil of Ladies’ College and is grateful to her choir mistress Christine Perera for her inspired coaching. After working for Dipped Products, Hayleys Ltd in Sri Lanka for almost a decade as a Projects Engineer, Anushka changed career paths and followed her passion for singing. Anushka was a member of the Merry-An Singers and is indebted to Mary Anne David for inspiring her to continue singing and training. Anushka is the choral director of the Senior choir of Ladies’ College and taught Mathematics for several years in school. She enjoys singing with the choral group Oktave and the Ladies’ College OGA choir. She is passionate about sharing her God given talent and sings for His glory by singing at St. Michael’s Church and with the Music Ministry Choir (MMC) led by Ishan De Lanerolle and Neranjan De Silva and is honored to be a part of this concert.
Devashrie De Silva
Devashrie De Silva is an old girl of Ladies’ College who exemplifies what Ladies’ College girls are inspired to be: ‘Independent and upright without being pretentious.’ Her rise to fame has not changed her unassuming and kind nature. Devashrie began singing at an early age and has years of experience. She is one of the biggest and brightest stars of the local scene and a renowned and much-loved songwriter and singer in Sri Lanka. One of her noteworthy and best performances was as ‘Christine Daae’ in The Workshop Players’ Production of The Phantom of the Opera.
Peshali Yapa
Peshali Yapa is a singing teacher, singer and choral conductor who first studied singing under Mrs. Christine Perera a former teacher at Ladies’ College. She then went on to get a Double Bachelor of Music degree in Performance and Teaching at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague, Netherlands. Peshali has performed both as a soloist and chorister in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, India and Sri Lanka.
She has over 23 years of experience in teaching singing in the Netherlands and in Sri Lanka. She is a member of several choirs and is the deputy conductor of the Colombo Philharmonic choir.
Dinushka Jayewickrema
Dinushka Jayewickrema is an English (Hons) graduate of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and a Licentiate of the Trinity College of Music London. Dinushka has a passion for singing and drama and has been engaged in pursuing these passions all her life! She is a former member of the Merry-An Singers and Soul Sounds. She is a teacher by profession and Directs the Methodist College Senior Choir. She is also the Director of the Senior Choir and Senior Drama at Colombo International School. Dinushka is an avid theatre enthusiast and has acted in acclaimed productions performed by The Workshop Players, Cold Theatre 7 and CenterStage Productions.
Seneli Premaratne
Seneli Premaratne took to singing and acting from the age of three and has since been in Musical Theater productions both at Ladies’ College and elsewhere. At Ladies’ College she took part in Sister Act and as Miriam in the Prince of Egypt. Seneli then moved on to participate in productions by different theater companies which include “Julius Caesar the Musical” by Stage, Light and Magic and the Workshop Players in which she played a lead role. Also ‘Rag’ by Jehan Aloysius in which she played the role of Natasha and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ by the Workshop Players in which she played the role of Fruma Sarah. Seneli is currently completiang her LTCL examination in Musical Theater.
