QCan you provide a brief history of MJB Properties and its evolution in the Dubai real estate market?
MJB Properties traces its origins to 1925, when Sardar Mehtab Singh Kochar arrived in the Middle East and, by 1927, founded Sherkat Shiromani Jawahar (SSJ). His vision laid the groundwork for a lasting family legacy. In 1961, his son Jagjit Singh Kochar expanded the company’s reach across the region, establishing its reputation for innovation. The year 2000 marked a new era under Gurjit Singh Kochar, whose global strategy extended operations to Europe, Asia, and the Americas. This growth led to the creation of the Mehtab Group, a diversified enterprise, with MJB Properties emerging as its premier real estate division.

QWhat are the current trends in the Dubai real estate market that MJB Properties is focused on?

QWhat are MJB Properties’ plans for future expansion?
We’re involved in several joint ventures, though, due to confidentiality, we can’t share specifics just yet. What I can say is that these ventures will deliver high value and exceptional experiences to our clients, aligned with our long-term growth strategy.
QTell us about your journey; from the classroom to the boardroom.
I was born and raised in Sri Lanka and studied at St. Peter’s College. I was deeply involved in athletics, even setting a national record. I also pursued a music career and worked at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority as a Coordinating Officer. Music remains a passion; I was a known face in Sri Lanka’s music scene. That diverse background taught me discipline and adaptability. Eventually, I transitioned into sales and corporate roles, building a strong foundation that helped me grow in the real estate world. Each step, from sports to music to sales, shaped who I am today.
QWhen did you join MJB Properties and what is your role today?
I joined MJB in mid-2019, starting as a sales rep and marketing manager. Through mentorship and consistent growth, I now serve as the Executive Director. It’s been an incredible journey.
QWhat brought you to Dubai?
In early 2019, I came to Dubai for a music concert. The city’s energy, infrastructure, and opportunity captivated me. It was love at first sight, and I knew I wanted to stay. That said, I’ve never truly left Sri Lanka; my culture, food, and identity remain a big part of my daily life.
QWas it easy to navigate the corporate world in Dubai?
Not at all. I started out sharing a bed space. It was tough, but I kept pushing. Dubai isn’t an easy ride, but it’s full of potential if you stay committed.
QHow did you enter the real estate sector?
This is where I need to acknowledge Mr. Gurjit Singh Kochar, our CEO. He believed in me, mentored me, and gave me the opportunity to rise. Everything I am today; I owe to him. His vision, support, and leadership continue to inspire me every day.
QHow do you see the Dubai real estate market evolving in the next five years?
We foresee exponential growth. Demand is still outpacing supply, and Dubai continues to offer some of the best returns in the world. At MJB, we’re committed to staying ahead through tech innovation, team excellence, and global outreach.
